Update 1.5 Preview
I've previewed this a couple of places, but I think it's time to do a proper announcement- we're working on an update to Spooky Starlets! Despite what some people have said, Spooky Starlets was never abandoned, it was just, well, finished? We completed the main story arcs for every girl, we completed the arc for the "main story" as it existed (which is basically Claire's arc), and every girl got her CGs and puppet animations.
Everything we set out to do, we did, and then some.
So it's been a mixed bag seeing people's reactions to the state of the game's launch. On one hand, we're glad to know that people want more Spooky Starlets! We've actually been (mostly) quietly plugging away at a sequel featuring 3D modelled and animated characters. On the other hand though, it's been disheartening to see people view the game as "abandoned" despite us achieving all of our goals. Many folks complain about how other adult games are always in early access and never release- yet it seems like once you do release, then people consider the game "abandoned" if you aren't continuously providing free updates.
Well either way- we still consider the game done, but there have been some things we have been wanting to revisit, that I've learned or improved on while working on our most recent game, Dungeon Tavern. As such the team has been working on a big overhaul update to improve the presentation, quality, and gameplay of Spooky Starlets! Think of this like a 1.5 "remaster" update.

However, as mentioned, it's more than just a visual change- it's a gameplay change. The biggest being that the mix and match puppet animations in the card section will be gone, in favor for hand crafted 2D animations. These only feature the generic ghosts on the cards- the logistical challenge of 2D hand-drawn animation each combination of characters would take another couple years of work. We hope to get around this logistical issue with the sequel, which is why the idea is to use 3D models for that. But for this remaster update? We feel it's better to have higher quality animations for the card gameplay section.

That being said, are you currently happy with the game as it currently is right now? Don't worry, you'll still be able to play the current 1.0 version of the game! When the new update launches, there will be an optional build branch you can select in the Steam settings called "legacy," which will preserve the game as you know it currently.

That's all for now- keep an eye out for more Spooky Starlets (and Dungeon Tavern) content coming up in the near future, and let us know how you feel about legacy and the game in general! What did you guys like about older versions? What do you guys like about newer versions? What are your preferences? Is there anything else we can do to help improve the experience for you folks?
Until next time, stay spooky!
