Sinburn’s Dev Blog - Is it a game?
(Ugh, I’m too British for that.)
We are still developing Sue’s bimbo look and we will be posting more polls soon to ascertain the opinions on some other changes. We will be aiming to offer, at least some, choice in the changes she goes through so if you see a poll on tattoo’s or piercings, know that it won’t apply in all cases. We’ll try to be clear.
The rough plan at the moment is, body is universal, face changes optional and then more alternative changes will be optional too, like tattoos and piercings. That’s not set in stone yet and a lot of it will depend on the response to the previews we post.
The Blog Part
The Discord chat got quite active on the topic of minigames recently which I found quite interesting. By the way, join the Discord[discord.gg].
Visual novels get a bad rep for not being real games, and I do see the point. I feel like it adds a degree of pressure on game devs to add minigames to mitigate this criticism. Equally, as the discussion showed, there are plenty of people out there who don’t like minigames in their visual novels and I get that too.
I’m honestly not sure what the right answer is. Sometimes they bug me, sometimes they don’t.

I think a part of it comes down to intent. If you want to get engrossed in a story and you want to spend a little time doing it one handed, then I can see how the minigame might break the flow of that.
Sometimes I like to play games with porn. A game that is definitely a game but with a little titillation in it. Butt Knight is one I enjoyed recently as is Scarlett Maiden. I wouldn’t play these one handed but I do enjoy the saucy content.
Conclusion
Erm… Not sure there is one.
We have one in MBD. I hope it’s subtle enough to slip past those who hate them. As I spend more time working on projects, I feel like there is a middle ground that I will seek to aim for on future projects; interaction. Short moments that break up the continuous clicking. Things like the split screen scene with Sue. Moments that don’t delay the pace but change how the player interacts with the screen.
And maybe just one or two little mini games but I promise to make them relevant.
Who knows. By the time I’m on to the next project, my feelings might have changed again.
Anyway, get opinionated in the comments or pop over to discord to tell me why I’m wrong.
